DID YOU KNOW CAT FACTS In 1992 British cat owners spent a total of £533 million on cat food. In the UK, 200 cats a day are taken in by The Cats Protection Charity. There are approximately 7.3 million cats kept as pets in the UK. Only 8% of cats are pedigrees.
Cat ownership in Scotland is the lowest in the UK. Nearly 55% of cat owners live in towns. Cat owners take their pets to the vet less than dog owners; 81.8% of cat owners compared to 89.1% of dog owners. Over 30% of cat vet visits are for vaccination.
The oldest cat on record was probably 'Puss', a tabby owned by a woman in Devon. He was 36 on November 28, 1939 and unfortunately died the next day.
